Łukasz Olek: A synthesis of reality, memories, and abstraction

Łukasz Olek’s paintings invite viewers to experience the world through his eyes, a world in which every landscape is a personal study of memories, emotions, and the fleeting beauty of the surroundings.

Born in Warsaw in 1982, he has repeatedly presented his paintings at exhibitions in prestigious galleries around the world. He is represented by galleries in Poland, the United States, France, Japan, Korea, and Australia, reflecting his growing international recognition. The artist also regularly participates in art fairs, including in London, New York, Amsterdam, Warsaw, and Paris. His works have found several hundred buyers from around the world.

Olek’s works are a synthesis of fragments of landscape, reducing them to their elementary forms of color, light, and texture.

His approach to painting is deeply personal, capturing not only the essence of the visual world, but also the artist’s own intimate feelings. His works are an introspective journey, vivid memories stretched across canvas, and each title is a tribute to the music that accompanied him in the creative process. This synaesthetic interaction of color, sound, and memories gives his works an extraordinary sensuality and immediacy.

The constant, consistent exploration of a fragmented landscape invites us into a world where each image is a universe unto itself.

Do you like to get lost on purpose? I love it. I always prefer local roads to highways, and it usually leads me to the most interesting places.

The landscapes I create begin their lives as a result of physical disorientation. When I reach the very end of the map, I can reflect on the world around me in peace and solitude. Then, in the studio, I try to find a way to transfer my memories onto canvas. My primary goal is always to convey the emotions, forms, colors, and sometimes even afterimages that a given place has evoked in me.

When creating, I like to get lost in different ways, searching for and testing new media, forms, and techniques. Sometimes, out of this momentary chaos, something emerges that stands in opposition to the calming landscapes that inspired me. Surreal demons appear, which lie dormant somewhere deeper or shallower in most of us.

I see art as a path, and the path as meditation and a way to achieve peace. I hope this path has no end, because there should always be something worth discovering.
